Now I Understand

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3:5-6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

This verse brings back memories I thought I had long forgotten. It was my third year of university and due to unforeseen circumstances, I decided to live on campus.

For a little back story, every New Year I would go to my parent’s church and at the end of service, the everyone in the congregation would get a bible verse. For that year, Proverbs 3:5 was my verse of the year.

In my room, there was a little board on the wall and I pinned the paper with the verse on there. Every morning before class, I would look at the first, pray and go about my day.

To be completely honest, those were the hardest months of my life.

I was working a terrible job that didn’t give me any hours, I was extremely depressed and didn’t know it and every night I saw a dark shadow in my room. It just stood there, looking at me until I said the name of Jesus and it went away.

Living on campus, I assumed that financial aid would cover the costs. I didn’t know until afterwards, it only covered $1000. So I spent my time there, getting by until it was time for me to graduate the next year.

The semester ends and I get an email from school stating that I need to pay $7000 for residence fees or else I would not be able to register for class.

Yea, I was in shock too.

I am a REALLY broke college student, I don’t have that kind of money laying around. I was already dealing with a lot and I didn’t know what to do. Telling my family was the last thing on my mind so I waited it out.

I carried this burden for months until I couldn’t hold it in anymore. I told my family and we all gathered together to figure out what to do.

I spent a few weeks going back on forth with my school trying to figure out what to do. I needed to graduate. I filed whatever paper that was needed because I was beyond over school at that point and needed to get out!

It was the last day of registration that I was able to get into all of my glasses. Ain’t God good?!!!

I cried and cried.

Throughout this entire experience, God was by my side. I didn’t understand what or why this was happening but it all worked out for my good.

My last year of university wasn’t the greatest; I had to retake a class, lost my job, and stayed with my best friend for a few days, but God covered me and I graduated.

I have experienced a lot in my life but this is one of those times when I knew for a fact that God is real!

You may be going through a difficult time right now and think God isn’t listening but He is! The devil is a lie! God hears you. He is moving mountains for you. He loves you and only wants the best for you. You don’t understand it now, but it will all make sense later. Keep the faith. Keep at his feet. You will make it through!
